After recapping the names and properties of the 3D shapes we have been learning about, we had a go at making these shapes with modelling materials. First, we used Polydron to make some common 3D shapes. Then, we moved on to using Blu-Tack and cocktail sticks! Year 3 were able to make cubes, tetrahedrons, square-based pyramids, cuboids and even a sphere with their magnetic shapes! How amazing!

As our hook lesson for our new text “The Tin Forest” the children created a forest out of clay & tin foil! They used their skills from their Year 2 sculpture project to create some amazing freestanding trees with only a little bit of help from sticky tape. We also made toucans out of clay! Our Tin Forests will be proudly on display in our rooms for the next few weeks.

In Science, Year 3 have been exploring the body and this week we looked at the skeleton. Did you know, an adult has 206 bones? We were amazed at some of the astonishing facts and loved using our own bodies to help us locate certain bones. We labelled each other with post it notes to show where the bones are and then created our own skeletons.
