Physical Education

Our Vision for Physical Education

At Harris Primary School, Physical Education is an integral part of our school’s ethos and education; Cherishing Childhoods, Foundations for the Future. We strive to promote excellence in Physical Education, throughout the day to enhance the curriculum as well as before and after school through different sports clubs.

PE Curriculum

We deliver high quality teaching, with a specialist teacher to ensure that all aspects of the PE curriculum are being delivered to the highest of quality. Through a specialist PE teacher and continuous professional development this ensures quality physical education is sustainable and progressive across the whole school.

Therefore, in Physical Education, we aim to inspire all children, including the least active, to succeed and excel. Through this, it is our intention to help develop their physical health and fitness, as well as a growing understanding of the benefits of an active lifestyle.

Implementation of PE Curriculum

  • Opportunities to learn skills in Gymnastics, Dance, Games, Athletics and Outdoor Adventure Activities.

  • All Children are provided with at least 2 hours of exciting, fun and active P.E. lessons each week.

  • Teachers follow the Lancashire P.E. scheme of work. This offers well planned sequences of learning, fulfilling every aspect of the National Curriculum, offering regular assessment opportunities as well as building in character values such as resilience and respect. Teachers adapt and develop these learning sequences to best suit their own classes by using their own sporting knowledge as well as ideas gained through P.E. training.

  • The P.E. Passport App is used to support the inclusive planning, delivery and assessment of the P.E. curriculum.

  • Our Year 4 pupils attend Swimming lessons at Fulwood Leisure Centre. If any of the children have not met this standard by the end of Year 4 then we provide ‘booster’ sessions at the end of the year.

Spending of Sports Premium

The P.E Leader and the Senior Leadership Team review our current PE facilities, curriculum and extra-curricular activities to best plan how to use the Governments Sports Premium. We implement the funding based on the needs of the school and our pupils. This includes, but is not exclusive to, extra-curricular activities and PE equipment to ensure our school sport is more inclusive and attractive to all pupils whilst ensuring improvements are sustainable so we can continue to provide high quality sports provision in the future.

Extra-curricular

Our school has always recognised the benefits of a strong PE curriculum and extra-curricular activity in raising children’s aspirations and self-esteem. Our children are able to access a variety of competitive and non-competitive(inclusive) sports within school, providing them with opportunities to express themselves and develop their own unique skills in their chosen sport.
